The weather was good when we woke up and left Wellington, but as we drove near our first stop of the day, the rain arrived again. We were meant to go to Gravity Canyon, about 2hrs from Wellington, to have a go on the Flying Fox. Unfortunately just as we were about 20 mins away the rain started so we decided to leave it for another day. Once we had driven another 20 mins further on, the rains cleared again. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be!

We arrived to our first destination of the holiday, Rotorua at around 5pm, where we checked into the Millennium Hotel Rotorua for 2 nights. Rotorua is a very smelly place due to hydrogen sulphide that drifts up from natural vents in the region's thin crust, and smells like rotten eggs, but you get used to it in time. Rotorua caters extremely well for the tourists, as this was our second time visiting Rotorua and we still had plenty of things to do and see.

We headed up to Hells Gate Mud Spa, where we had a soak in the mud bath and then the sulphurous hot pools. There is also a walk around the thermal activity areas but we decided against doing this.

After the spa we drove along to Tutea Falls. There isn't anything spectacular about these falls as they're only 7metres high, but white water rafters end up going over them so we wanted to catch them in action. Unfortunately we think we were too late in the day, but we did test out my camera settings photographing the falls.
