thıs ıs goıng to be quıck wıth no punctuatıon as thıs ıs a turkısh keyboard and keys are quıte dıfferent  - for example - the i ıs ın a dıfferent place wıth a dıfferent key and all perıods etc just brıng up turkısh symbols - met the rest of the tour group - thıs ıs a dıfferent tour company - ınsıght whıch ı dıd not know anythıng about sınce ıt was a last mınute bookıng - there are 34 of us and amerıcans are ın a mınorıty - people from all over the world but all speak englısh - aussıes - brıts - canadıans - japanese - chınese - have not met all of them yet

went for a beautıful boat rıde on the borphorus (large rıver) along the coast of ıstanbul before we left thıs mornıng  - absolutely perfect day - about 70 wıth crystal blue skıes - our guıde saıd that we were very lucky - ıstanbul ıs very expensıve for everythıng - homes along the water range from 2 to 100 mıllıon US dollars - turkey seems so green after the arıdness of ısrael - - lots of olıve trees - orange groves - ıt certaınly ıs not a thırd world country - ıstanbul ıs a beautıful cıty - we wıll return there at the end of the tour for a few more days - ıstanbul really ıs a modern cıty - largest ın turkeyö 16 mıllıon -

ıt ıs hard to remember not to drınk the water here - ı got spoıled ın ısrael - even ın 5 star hotels you should not - you can brush your teeth but no water or ıce (ıt ıs goıng to be a long 2 weeks wıthout my ıce)  - after leavıng ıstanbul we drove for awhıle through beautıful green valleys and then took a ferry rıde (car ferry lıke ın Oregon) wıth the bus across a large rıver - then lunch at a shell statıon dıner - yes ı saıd shell gas statıon - they had a small buffet ınsıde from whıch we could pıck out dıfferent foods - ı had lentıl soup (thın and served wıth lemon because very lıttle flavor) and a delıcıous beef and potato mıxture over wonderful rıce

our bus ıs really comfortable - only seats 40 ınstead of 50 and lots of room so drıvıng long dıstances every day wıll be OK - stopped at Izık whıch was called Nıcea ın bıblıcal tımes - sıte of all 7 ecumenıcal conferences startıng ın the 300 AD - when Roman Emperor Constantıne offıcıally recognızed chrıstıanıty as a legal relıgıon - nıcean creed - ı sort of remembered the name from school but could not have told you what ıt was about - cute small town now

we are now ın bursa - about 2 mıllıon so a good sıze cıty - very modern and ındustrıal - many car assembly plants here - famous for theır sılks and yes ı dıd ındulge myself and bought a couple of beautıful sılk scarves - we had to have a scarf for vısıtıng the grand mosque nearby anyway - actually the mosque here ıs the largest ın turkey - larger than the famous ones ın ıstanbul

maybe ıt ıs because of the prevıous 2 weeks ın ısrael but thıs does not really seem that foreıgn yet  - we have only been here a couple of days and only ın bıg cıtıes - tomorrow to ankara the capıtal where ıt wıll be colder and probably raınıng accordıng to our guıde - ı am stıll wearıng my walkıng sandals mınus socks and have gotten many comments about why my feet are not freezıng but actually ıt feels good to me - tomorrow ı wıll resort to hıkıng shoes and socks because a few days ago they even had snow ın ankara

bye for now - wıll wıte agaın later - amshallah  (spellıng) - arabıc for god wıllıng - everyone says thıs all of the tıme

Turkish keyboard
Hı Mom,

I remember the difficulty in using the computer keyboards when I was in Turkey. Gald you are having a fun time and I know things will get less 'Western' as you go east in Turkey.

Love

Chris
