His wife seems to be ok she made us breakfast upon our request, it was really nice, actually we really like ortisei but unfortunately we have to leave early today we need to conquer the hardest part of the dolomite way to reach cortina d'ampezzo where we are sleeping tonight.
I read a lot about this road and I am really afraid to do it...first, I don't think I am such a good driver, second it's raining today which makes it harder....
We fed the car before we went, she needs to be strong today, and started our adventure
The road started ascending quickly up, the temperature descend down, after ten minutes it was only 5degrees. All the way there were villages and houses, how people live like that??
There was a point that the houses stopped, there were no green anymore but yellow grass and there where concrete walls everywhere....yes this is passo sela, the rocks pass, this is gonna be the hard part. All this area looked to me like a battle zone that was abondoned a few seconds before, it was quiet outside only the sound of the wind...my hands and legs were shaking I have fear of heights and this is exactly not the place I want to be in, but I have to be strong, so I don't care I'm driving slow...very slow...I mean very very very slow...I could walk it faster. For ten minutes I couldn't breath the view was stunning and extremely dramatic, it was abyss all around and the huge rocks of the Dolomites were closing on us from above...I have to admit I don't like them at all those rocks, remember disney's movie fantasia?? If so, there is the part with Stravinsky music, in this piece there is a bold mountain that look exactly like the Dolomites figures...in the night he is becoming a bad wizard...I know I'm 31 already but since I saw this mountain this what I think about them - bad wizards...wa hah ha ha ha!!!
After a few minutes the landscape changed to a green forest, I felt safe...I did the hard part!!!
Our main thing today is to reach the marmolada, the highest mountain of the Dolomites, there are supposed to be 3 different cable cars leading to its top that is over 3400 m
We finished descending the mountain and reached a valley, everything was so beautiful I have no words in English or in Hebrew to describe this beauty.
After 3hours of hard driving we reached the first point to take the cable car...l but what a surprise it was closed...all the cable cars in this area closed because of the weather....oooofffff....we felt so bad cause we really wanted to do it
Sadly we kept driving to cortina de'ampezzo...I have to admit that after driving the passo sela everything was a piece of cake...this way too was very curvey, I could see bearly for 2 meters ahead and aviv cried but it was beautiful outside so it's all good!!
We reached cortina...what a nice place, can be a background for muller commercial video, all around was green slopes with little Austrians style huts...we found our apartment easily, after all it's a small place.
We started walking toward the center of town and then the rain started what a bad luck today...cortina is a very touristic place, not now, in the winter when all the ski activities are on. Today was pretty quiet, a few unlucky tourist like us looked for shade in the rain, luckily there where a few stores open, we also found a fancy store for baby cloth, 250€ for a coat!!!! Who would pay this amount for coat that will be good for a few months???
After a very "touristic"strudel in one of the open caffes we decided to buy some food in the mini market and to cook them in our very well equipped apartment. We bought ngucci, ravioli and souces....we are going to eat now!!! Good night!!!
