Saturday morning in Torino, I managed to go with aviv to the near by Carrefour to buy some things for the road and for breakfast. It's so nice to buy in the local grocery store such a great muzarella cheese and fresh nice vegetables. Back in the apartment I made us some salad with muzarella tomatoes and basil, fried eggs and toasted bread. Small breakfast but I enjoyed making it. I made some sandwiches for the road, fruits, cookies, the luggage is ready, we say goodbye to our more then nice apartment owner and we are off to lake como.
Before going to tell you about the other adventures of the day I'm taking this place to give a good comment to our air bnb apartment well done michele - we more then loved you place thank you we highly recommend it!!
Today is our big trial with rental car. It's the first time for all of us and since I'm the only driver it's making me even more nervous. For that morning I thought that getting out of Torino will be hard....hahaha!!!
Of course we walked to the rental car offices because we are walking people and of course we walked to much so we had to walk a bit to the opposite way. We enter the office and we were the only one there, two minutes later there were no space to breath, many people coming to take a car or bring it back it was 12pm and 30 minutes to closing time before the weekend....finally we managed to go out to meet our car... Mercedes Aclass, small car from out side but very big inside. We easily put everything inside and hit the road!!!
For 20 minutes it was hard I didn't understand the signs and was close to a car accident in a junction but my first impression was that the Italian are not a better drivers compared to the Israelis. They don't signal and sometimes they run into a red light...
Finally we made it and we were on the highway!!! For a few minutes I felt so good and free it was so easy to reach 140 kph, aviv slept in her safety seat and we listened to music...all that good things ended when we first saw the toll road check point,, Aviv whacked up started to scream like hell, yoed didn't find his bag or wallet and I didn't understand which lane to take...after 3minutes of trying to understand in Italian what we have to do, I got a paper and the gate - opened wooo hoooo!free willy!!
Later on we payed almost ten euros to get out from the highway(day light robbery) but we still felt good with ourselves.
The highway was really great but then we took a side road heading to como. This is the time to say again I hate GPS. I hate that machine navigate me I hate not to know where I am. But sometimes you need to go on and to start using the technology, you old but not so much.
The GPS was a disaster she told us to drive through the smallest villages ever...a drive that supposed to be two hours became longer and longer...the worst thing was that we didn't understand why she says to take the first exit in a roundabouts but the screen showed to turn left...and when I made a mistake it took ages to refresh so we were wandering too much time there. Later on we found out that yoed changed the setting to walking style!!! Let's hope that was the problem and that tomorrow will be better!!!
After reaching como we had more 35 km to bellagio... I didn't expect this adventure!!! The road was one narrow lane...there were a lot of dangerous curves and it will be a waste of time to describe again how the Italian are driving. One hour for driving there and I lost a year of my life...how funny in Monday I will do it again!!! In that horror moments aviv started screaming after she slept all the way...we just wanted this road to end!!!
Finally it ends in Silvia hotel...what nice place!!!!
Conclusion of the day:
The distance on the map doesn't equal actual driving time
We won't drive the whole lake - it's crazy
McDonald sign on the road doesn't necessarily mean you will actually find it
