Our brother and his wife came up from Decatur, AL to see everybody on Thursday and we enjoyed lunch at the Dutch Maid Bakery in Tracey City. It's a great place to eat and get some wonderful baked treats if you're ever in the area.
Joe and Joey went to check on Perla after lunch and did all the maintenance they thought it needed: spark plugs, points, oil, filters, flushed lines, etc. and put back on the marine grade distributor cap instead of the automotive one they had put on during the trip. Perla started up and seemed to be ready for business!
The four of us went back to Nickajack Lake on Friday ready for an outing to test Perla out. She started right up, but it took a little bit for her to idle smoothly. Then we were off!
And then the engine started missing. So back to the dock we came before we were stuck in the lake with no wind. Joe flushed the water cooling lines again and then things seemed ok. So back out to the lake and this time things seemed good. When a slight breeze was detected the decision was made to put up the jib.
One problem with Nickajack Lake is that it is surrounded by mountains. That makes for a beautiful lake but it stops some of the wind that a sailboat needs.
We decided it was time to head back to the dock while the getting was good and the next tact to take will be to convert the Atomic 4 engine over to electronic ignition and to order a new marine distributor cap. I think the term used was to "bullet proof" Perla. That will be another good excuse for a trip back to the mountain!
Take a look at this weird little squirrel we saw in Monteagle. I took the pictures through the screen of the window so it's hard to see, but his tail is white!
