Greg took a lot of video and photographs today and I really love being able to see what they're seeing. They said it was overcast all day today and it sprinkled on them a bit. I see jackets in some of the pics so it might be on the cool side. You can tell that the water is cleaner and calmer here....hope that trend continues. The winds have not been in their favor so all of today was motoring.
They had the easiest day of the trip so far today! The water is getting clearer and that means the engine is running cooler without nearly as much Dawn needed. But the guys are ready for action with a newly purchased blue bucket from Fred's in Aliceville. The ice chest can go back to it's original duty now. They did have a little bit of overheating in the locks, but they are old pros at this now. They have decided that they can finish the trip without having to find a marina with a lift to change out the intake valve. Joe talked to Joey and the plan is to have this work done where it will be safest at the marina in Nickajack Lake. So unless they have a lot more trouble, they will clip along as is. They average about 5 or 6 mph and are doing about 50 miles in a day. Today they completed about 52 miles and it seems the water is getting calmer as well as clearer as they go north. This should bode well for Perla and they may make it to Decatur, AL by Saturday. That is where my brother and sister-in-law live and they have offered to come fetch the boys for a little break if they'd like.
