Drive today was not long and we wanted to establish a base so that we could see and explore Bryce Canyon. Weather was clear with some wind and there is a threat of a storm coming in on Monday. We get to our campground and set up. Again has everything but I cannot get connected to the internet. This is reason for the delay in my journal entries. We decide to go back to Bryce Canyon to see it. This again is quite different as you drive a road that is 20 miles long and on way you climb to an elevation of nearly 9,000'. There are several viewpoints that you can turn into to view this canyon. This is the canyon of the HooDoos. This again is completely different from what we saw at Zion and equally quite impressive. An interesting thing happen on the drive, we found that as we continued to climb the more uncomfortable the dogs became. Not sure if it was the altitude or the somewhat thinner air. It was also creating some minor problems for us so we only went as far as Farview Point elevation 8,819'. To Pat's credit she went to some of these view points and took in the view. Again more pictures which I will put in at a later time. Back to the entrance and I check at the Chevron as I need to get the oil changed in Abby as the warning light has come on. Find out it is first come first serve no reservations taken. Will have to come back on Monday morning early. Back we go to Abby for dinner and some relaxing time. I do some weather checking on the computer in the campground office and we decide to stay on more night as we do not want to do Highway 12 in bad weather. Tomorrow we will explore the Kodachrome Basin and just take it easy.
Monday May 12/08 comes and it is cloudy with some wind with the prospect of the weather getting worse. Undaunted we decided that we would like a nice breakfast and we go into Tropic. Big mistake as went went to this restaurant( Clarkes) and it took 40 minutes to get our order and then it was wrong and cold. It was a most regrettable experience. We go off to explore Kodachrome Basin. This is a spectacle of towering sandstone chimneys and varied landscapes. In this park they had a great nature trail that we both went on as viewed a varied assortment of plants, rock formations and creatures. We spent about 2 hours there and then made our way home.
Took the rest of the day to relax and get prepared for tomorrow as we press on up Highway 12 dubbed the most beautiful highway in America.
A short note here. Our two dogs are doing really well and travel well in Abby. Brigitte continues to smell the various parts of Utah via the cold air vent. She stands with her nose stuck in the vent as we drive down the highway. Shae is considerably more refined and prefers to watch the world go by from the window while sitting on the couch.
We have dinner and then get Abby prepared for a early departure tomorrow morning.
