We pulled out of Salt Lake City around 10:00am on our way to Moab. The drive today will be a bit long for us and we expect to get into Moab around 3:30pm. Weather is clear and sunny but not too hot. We carry on down highway 15 through Provo and then onto highway 6 which eventually turns into 191 and leads you into Moab. We first must cross the Wasatch mountains and through Solider Summit. We stop in Price for gas and further down the road pull into a rest stop for some lunch and give the dogs some exercise. Trip is quite uneventful but the scenery is beautiful. We begin to start to see the rock outcroppings that are so prevalent around the Moab area along the way. Arrive at the Moab Valley RV Park where we had reservations. Have a pleasant site with a view of the Moab fault. Our friends that were with us in Salt Lake are also in the park so we had a little visit Saturday night as they were pulling out on Sunday morning.

On Sunday Pat and I toured Arches National Park. This took us about 3 hours and the sights, scenery and rock formations just take your breath away. There is so much to see that it is hard to take it all in. As you can imagine I took numerous photos some of which turned out quite well. Back to Abby in the afternoon for some relaxing time. I went on the river cruise on Sunday night which again was truly quite spectacular. Finally back home and a well deserved rest. Tomorrow we are going to go to Dead Horse State Park and Canyon Lands National Park.

Monday comes and the weather is clear and warm. Today we are going to take the dogs with us. Pat makes a great picnic and we set off at 10:00am. The whole trip took about 41/2 hours to complete. Again we saw saw incredible vistas and a completely different type of rock and canyon formations than what we saw at Arches. Dead Horse State Park was very interesting and we saw the bow in the Colorado River where the horses were corralled and eventually died of thirst.(hence the name) This is also the location where they filmed the movie "Thelma and Louise". They "launched" not one but two 1966 Ford T-Birds into the river to film the last scene and both then were removed by being hooked up to a large helicopter and taken away. This State park has a campground that was beautiful with paved pads,50amp service, covered eating area and a view to die for.

We left there and continued on our way to Canyon Lands. To get there we had to drive through some open range and had to keep a eye open for wandering cows and their young ones as they would saunter across the road. The National park is another 12 miles up the road and along the way we had a variety of different vistas that again were so vast it is difficult to put into words just how splendid these views are. Again I take numerous pictures. We are up at 6000' feet so the temp is very pleasant. We get back to Abby around 3:30 and are quite happy to have some time inside in the cool. This evening I went back to Arches to get some photos with the sunset. This time the various rock formations take on a whole new colour and again very pretty. Then back to Abby where I took the time to update this log. Tomorrow we leave here and head for Monument Valley.
