Well we finally got to this campsite where the people who run the operation were overly friendly. Could not wait to have us sign in and if we liked we could order some food and it would be delivered to our coach. Just phone them! It sounded quite appealing given how our day had gone.
We started out from Boise and as usual my trusty navigator got us out of the city and onto the freeway in no time flat with little fuss. I had noticed that the winds had picked up but for the most part they were behind us which caused us no problem. We had decided that we wanted to go down scenic highway 30 for a small detour as it was supposed to be quite pretty. Remember about that wind, well once off Hwy 84 these winds now hit Abby on her side which resulted in our awning being blown open and flapping in the breeze like some sort of prairie schooner sail. To say we were a little distressed would be a understatement. We had just started on  Hwy 30 when this happen and as luck would have it we found a turnout for some type of scenic view RV park in Delco
RV park in Delco
. Not exactly what we had in mind but it allowed us to get off the road and try to attend to the problem.
Imagine if you can trying to stand on a ladder in a 40mph wind trying to get a 18' by 8' awning under control. It was quite an exercise but I finally managed to get the thing rolled back up and then I secured the awning and related bits and pieces. At this point scenic drives are the last thing on my mind and the quicker I can get to our final destination for the day the better. Other than the wind the drive was uneventful until we reached our campground "Village of the Trees."
We were assigned a spot and once parked I got out to attend to RV things(like hooking up water, sewer, and power) only to find this howling 40mph plus wind buffeting Abby. The winds were so strong that I had to secure some slide awnings to prevent them from being ripped off the side of the coach. Took the dogs for a walk and just about froze. Imagine April 30th and the temp is a balmy 34 degrees with a wind chill bringing it down to about 25.
Quite night just listening to the howling wind and the furnace coming on at regular intervals to keep us warm. Disconnected our water line as I thought it might freeze. Good thing as we woke up to a light dusting of snow on the ground. My first thought was just how much of a challenge todays drive would be. Sure we are going south but we have to go through a mountain pass on our way to Salt Lake City. More to follow on the drive to Salt Lake City.
