Where I stayed
Got the train down from Reims to Dijon yesterday. It was quite a long train, but I had met two Australian girls in the hostel lobby who were getting the same train and staying in the same hostel, so we grouped together to find our way. Eventually we pulled in to Dijon but it was too late in the day to do anything but rock up to our hostel, which has a half hour bus ride out of town.
Had a fairly quiet night at the hostel, just bumming around, as there was nothing to do in the area at all and I didn;t fancy an hour round trip back in to Dijon. I had to check out the next morning (breakfast FINISHED at 8.30, the time it normally starts everywhere else!) and I hopped back over to the station, where I dropped off my bag and caught the train to Beaune
Spent the first half hour in Beaune getting spectacularly lost, but eventually found my way to he wine market, which is where the tasting took place. I paid 10 euro to get in and tried 15 different wines, 12 of which were red (damn...) They were all expensive bottles. The cheapest wine I tried was 19 euro a bottle whilst the most expensive was 39, so for everything I got, 10 euro was a bargain!
By the end I was getting pretty sozzled (I know you're meant to spit it out, but no-one was around and that would have been a waste of good wine!) so I decided not to go back for a second round. After that I staggered to the wine museum down the road and had a look at the history of Burgundy wine before going back to the station in Dijon and waiting for my (delayed) train to Marseille.
Photos to come later!
