Went out in Kilkenny in the end to see a Thin Lizzy tribute band who turned out to be very good. Was talking to a couple of Irish girls during the show and once again, they were really easy to talk to. Since being here I've not had a single problem talking to the locals. They're all so friendly and willing to talk away to you as if they have known you for years.
Before that I met the first true 'character' of my trip. A man who claimed to have been travelling around Ireland for 6 and a half years and cornered me before spewing out a load of tall tales about the lives he had saved on the way.
The next day, before I got the train I went over to the hurling stadium, and for 10 euros I got a ticket to see 2 games
The best way to describe hurling is to say this: It is like someone trying to organise a game of hockey in the middle of a bar fight, and decided to hand out the sticks whilst the fight was still going on. It was... a spectacle, and one I'm glad I saw.
After that I got the train over to Waterford and went straight to my hostel, where I got chatting to my roommates and agreed to go out to a pub which had a live band on. The band was just a covers band, but they were very good. So much for a quiet night, anyway...
Today I got up, checked out and went for a wander round Waterford in the day time. I found precisely nothing of interest, so 20 minutes later I went to the bus station and got on the bus to Cork. And so here I am. I seem to have managed the quiet night tonight, so here's hoping I don't spontaneously feel like going for a drink in a bit.
Stranger things have happened...
