Today is our final day in Japan so I got up early and took the subway over to the Kyoto Museum. Lots of displays of Japanese art and replicas of village life were featured. One display showing the building of the Heian Shrine even had holographic figures showing the men at work and village life. Unfortunately there was no English signage so I was guessing at what I saw.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a special exhibit of artwork by famed Japanese artist Hiroshige and Hokusai. The gallery was packed with Japanese examining the finely detailed drawings of Japanese life in the 1800's and beautiful landscapes. I bought two wood block prints but left them the next day on our plane to Hong Kong. I will try contacting Northwest Airlines but who knows if I will get them back.
We had moved to a new hotel for our final night, as our hotel did not have a room for us. Kyoto is packed with Japanese tourists and all of the hotels are full. Our new hotel has a beautiful Japanese garden used for weddings complete with resident swan. Matt and I had planned to go to the Gion District where the geisha houses are and see a show of traditional Japanese dance and music. Instead we had dinner at the hotel's French restaurant and watched a geisha at a free show presented by the hotel. I am bone weary and just can't face another subway ride.

The garden shrine is intriguing and the dolls are exquisite.
