I am off to the Peace Corps!! Yes... the day has now arrived after well over a year of applications, preparations, and anticipation I depart tomorrow!! In the morning I board a plane with two bags to my name for three days of training in Detroit and then two years (27 months) in the Philippines. I am rather anxious to get this process going and become a full-fledged PCV!
I arrive in Detroit tomorrow evening and our quick three days of "this is what it means to be a PCV" begin on Tuesday. I have really enjoyed e-mailing my soon-to-be fellow volunteers the last few months and am excited to meet everyone. This year is the 45th anniversary of the Peace Corps and the University of Michigan is hosting a large semi-formal party on Wednesday evening that we will all attend. Should be a great opportunity for me to get some smoozing in HA HA! I am actually very excited about this event my Grandfather (DeLos) attended the University of Michigan and it will be fun to be on the campus in his honor! After what I am sure will be a whirlwind three days, we board a plane on Thursday for a 19-hour ride to Manila (changing planes in Japan). My first three months of training will be spent in Manila focusing on language (Tagalog) and cultural training. I know it is going to take much longer then three months to learn Tagalog but hopefully this time will provide a good start.
At this point I am not sure it has entirely hit me that I will be living in the Philippines for the next two years. I have had a lot of time to prepare for this day and I feel surprisingly ready for this new journey to begin. It has been wonderful to see many of you the last few months and while I know it is going to be very difficult to not see or speak with you often, each of you have had an impact on my life and helped me recognize the importance of service and helping others. (In other words I see you each as much apart of this journey as I am). I am very excited to share my experiences with each of you and I look forward to hearing updates on your lives as well.
Below is my address for at least the first three months in Manila!

Pace on the loose
I am so excited I am the first to post on your lovely site. Sherry, it was wonderful to see you in Seattle. Your energy is contagious. I am really proud of what you are doing. I will be anxiously awaiting Peace Corps news. By the way, nice pic! I wonder who took that? Way to get Red Tour in the blog. Lot's of Love, Trento PS I am just finishing The Way of the Peaceful Warrior per your suggestion.
Detroit what!
There are not many people who can embrace this type of journey with such faith, compassion, and dedication as you. Simply because of the fact that you're thinking about and 'taking' all of your family and friends along with you as we were there makes me that certain that you're going to put everything you have into this experience and receieve so much more from it. May God provide you with amazing moments that bring a greater meaning to your life, Sherry. I love you for who you are and who you'll become over these next 27 months, and I can't wait to be there every step of the way!! Good luck in MI and enjoy your last few days in the States! Love, Kramer
