The Mass started at 9 a.m., and we were dismissed by 9:45 a.m., so we went back to the hotel for a nap - we mustn't break our Sunday after-church regiment! After a rest we took a vaparetto to the island of Murano, where the Venetian glass is made. The glass is beautiful with many vibrant colors. But honestly, I've seen some really swell glassblowers in Gatlinburg that produce nice work, too.
We meandered through the maze of Venice in the afternoon, having another gelato and soaking up the sunshine that poured on the little island. It may be small in land size, but it was packed with tourists of all nationalities. We came across Piazza di San Marco again, and this time there was a que line of 300' long with hundreds of people waiting to enter the Basilica. Gee, if only they had attended church this morning, they could have seen everything inside without having to wait in line -- and maybe received a message from the Lord, as well, especially if they understood Italian.
We said goodbye to Venice early this evening as we took a train to Florence, and then a connecting train to Pisa where we are spending the night. We were given a magnificent sunset over the Tuscan region as we neared Florence. The area is basically flat with a mountainous backdrop. It appears to be a more economically lucrative area with nice homes and farms.
The train arrived in Pisa around 10 p.m., and we taxied to the hotel. We have a top-floor (4th) room with a terrace that actually gives us a full view of the Leaning Tower only a couple of hundred yards away! Madison is so happy. She said it looks like the Tower is falling in our direction. As long as it doesn't fall before our ticketed time tomorrow morning, then we're good!
