We had an early start from Paris this morning to catch the Eurail to Nice, in the South of France.  The weather is definitely more warm, and it feels just like a Carribean vacation.  As we came into the train station we could see the azure blue water, which is absolutely gorgeous!  We only paused long enough to drop our luggage off at the hotel before boarding another train to Monte Carlo, Monaco - we have to check off another country from the list!  Monaco is tiny, Rhode Island could probably beat it up, but it is such the hangout for the rich and famous.  This just happens to be the Grand Prix weekend so the place is filled with high-falluting people.  While we were waiting to cross the street five Ferrari's came whizzing by, chasing each other.  We made our way to the Monte Carlo Casino, the famous locale of many movies, just to have our photographs taken.  Todd had said he wanted a polo shirt from Monte Carlo, but I'm sure he would get upset if I paid the $140 for one (I'll find another from a sidewalk vendor!)  But it was a slight ego boost to literally rub shoulders with people that have multi-million dollar yachts moored a few hundred yards away in the Mediterranean Sea.  And then reality set in when we left to get on a train to return to Nice - and not in a Ferrari.

Back in Nice we wandered through the tourist area where merchants sell their souvenirs and there are multiple sidewalk cafès.  Madison and I also had to dip our feet in the Cote de Azure so we walked down to the edge of the sea.  It was very rough going because there is no sand... just rounded stones of 4"-5" in diameter.  Walking on "the beach" was a challenge, and I really don't see how people could lay out in the sun on the rocks.  But the water was absolutely breathtaking with the deep blue and white waves crashing on the rocks.  The really interesting thing was the noise the rocks made as a wave came in and caused them to roll down the shoreline.

The water is beautiful, the atmosphere is inviting, and Nice is nice, but I choose Monte Carlo. I just have to find the right Ferrari owner!
