A couple weeks ago I went to a steampunk convention. For those of you who are unfamiliar with steampunk, it is "a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century" (according to Wikipedia). Basically it is industrial revolution meets Victorian age stuff - mostly fashion and jewelry. Anyway, I went to this convention with an international friend I've met and it was pretty cool. It was mostly artists selling their jewelry or props, all of which were very expensive, but it was fun to look at. A lot of people were dressed up, which I think always looks cool. After the convention, I got to see where a lot of the international students live on campus. The rooms where quite small, so I'm glad I'm living off campus. I also went to my first American food place in NZ - Subway. It was just as good as it is in the States (except for their lack of banana peppers). Later that night, I went out dancing with a few friends, which is always fun.
Apart from that, I've been focused on school. I'm thankful for this break because it'll give me a chance to relax a bit and do some sight seeing. I'm planning on going to the Auckland Zoo this week.
By the way, it's been raining and cold here for the last three days, so I'm finally getting a taste of the famous New Zealand weather. Hope the weather is better for the Wisconsinites!
Hello again! With school in full swing, it's been difficult to get much else into my schedule. I've had exams the last couple of weeks (so far, so good) and haven't really had a chance to do much else. Thankfully, we get a week long break now, so I should have some exciting adventures to post here soon.
