I would like to just take a moment to appreciate my car. My amazing car that gets me everywhere. I don't have to worry about having cash, missing my times, or it being too full. If you can't tell, I had a bit of a rough day with the bus system. My day started with having to get up 3 hours earlier than the start of my first class. I wanted to take the bus with Carlos so he could show me the way, so that meant waking up at 6 am. We left at 7 to catch the bus at 7:24; not a problem given that it takes 15 minutes to walk to the bus stop. The problem came when the first 3 buses that were going to campus were completely full. The buses didn't even stop they were so full; it was crazy. We ended up having to take a different bus that took us 20 minutes away (walking) from the place we were supposed to be dropped off. It was frustrating, but it would've been worse if that would've made me late to class - luckily it didn't. It was also $4.50 to get there (so $9.00 for the day) - not so fun. I also had to wait for 30 minutes for the bus I needed back to arrive. On the way back, I was on my own and thought I had missed my stop, but thankfully someone pointed out that the stop I needed was the next one and not the one we'd just passed. But enough of the pessimism; I'm sure I'll get the hang of the system soon and then it'll be less terrifying.
My only class of the day was pretty similar to those at UWGB. The syllabus is handed out, gone through way too thoroughly, and then we had a little introduction to the class and what it's about. I'm taking a course on education in New Zealand and we learned about the history of the first NZ school. It was pretty cool, but there were a lot of Maori names that were difficult to spell. Microsoft Word had a red line frenzy trying to figure out what I was typing! The professors here seem very nice and willing to help - although it helps that the class only had about 50 people.
I'm back at home now and just went for a swim (sorry to all the snow-covered people in WI). I'm going to have lunch (thrilling, I know) before I work on some homework for next week's class.
On a side note, yesterday I watched Gloria at her first horse riding lesson. It was fun to watch, but I don't think I'll be jumping on a horse anytime soon.
