And home I now am - and to be honest feeling a little weirded out by it. It's all so familiar that it doesn't feel like I've been away and I think I feel a little hesitant about really getting back into the swing of things and catching up with everyone as part of me wants to hold on to the feeling of being a footloose and fancy free traveller.
Dave and I had an excellent time in Borneo - after the great pristine jungle of Brunei we spent a couple of days lazing about the posh hotel in Kuching - glorious luxury and no plans to do anything except order the next pina colada and take a dip in the pool.
Then over Tuesday, Wednesday and early hours of Thursday it was the long haul back. We had a stop over of about 12 hours in Singapore and after the laid back feel of Borneo island, Singapore felt rather manic and rushed - we felt 'herded' everywhere - but it was still an impressive city. Then, after 13 hours on the plane - back to Heathrow and grey drizzle!! Mum and Dad picked us up in a stretch limo - complete with champagne - a fantastic way to be met and the journey back to Winchester sped by.
So now what? I wish I knew! I have chosen to withdraw my teaching application for this year - I felt I was rushing into the decision with too little information on what a teaching career would be like. I will still arrange some school visits and explore the option of applying next year - but for now I will look for a project management job.
So - in the next few days all the catching up with friends and family will start in earnest, but for the moment I am enjoying the peace of being still and the green green grass of home (literally!).
This is my last blog entry - it's been quite a trip and finding the words to round it off appropriately is just too hard. So I'll leave it there.
Take care as always,
