We arrived in Bangkok two days ago.  After the last few weeks of doing nothing on a beach we were finally ready for it.  Really enjoyed Kho Makk, very chilled and a nice place to stay if you are a couple.  The huts we stayed in were nice and the restaurant Monkey Shock, was delicious.

As it was the full Moon on the Saturday we went to the Islands full moon party which was ok. The Dj (Alex) for the night was in the bar next to where we were staying and he said we should go with him, so we met there had a few drinks.  When the 'taxi' arrived to pick us up it turned out to be a pick up truck that needed to seat about 19 people, as well as decks, records and a laptop!!!!!  Luckily for me there was room in the front for two, so me and another girl went in the front while Mike had to squeeze in and hangon in the back of the pick up truck, along with Alex and all his kit for the night.

We first went to the pier on the other side of the Island where there was lots of food stalls, music, dancing and general party spirit with all the locals out with their families celebrating.  We had some food and listened to the bizarre music (a sort of take on kareoke) met a couple and decided to head to the truck to go to the party.  Got to the end of the pier and there was no sign of the truck.  We hung around for a minuite discussing our options to get to the party (on the other side of the Island) with no cabs around, when our saviour arrived in the form of 'Rit' (the owner of the bar we were heading to) who was driving a wooden car - literally a car made out of wood!!!!  (We will put pictures up soon).  I told him that my dad would love this!!  It drove like a tank, but it got us to our destination.  The DJ was playing out of the back of a pick up truck, the music was awesome and there was a great fire show.  Then two other friendly guys gave us a lift back on their motobikes.

So we left Koh Makk feeling ready for the big smoke - or in Bangkok's case the Big Smog.  It is busy here, but good fun.  We are staying in The New Siam Guesthouse which is near, but not to near, Khao San Rd.  It is clean enough and the room is comfy.  We were going to also stay in Chinatown, but after going there yesterday we have decided against it.  Chinatown has some great markets, which are huge and you could get lost in for days.  It is unbelieveablely hectic there.  It was great to spend the afternoon there but the markets make you dizzy.  You can buy anything you could possibly want there, there were even guys stripping down engines on the pavement and selling the parts.  Dad you would have been in heaven, there were streets and streets selling car parts and tools.  We ended up buying a couple of watches.  The haggling in itself is tiring, but I am getting better at it.  Also brought some jeans and t-shirts etc.  (Saw a guy selling Eelus Shat-at t-shirts too!!!)

Yesterday we took a boat along the river, which is a convenient, cheap and cool way to get about.  Then visited one of the many Wat's which was beautiful.  The architecture is so intricate and lavish.  Inside there was a huge golden budda, about 25ft high and 50ft long.  Had a few drinks and some delicious street food last night, phad thai, red curry, fried rice.  Love the roti's with banana, chocolate and condensed milk, and only about 25p, yummy!  So many nice things to eat and really cheap.

Think we are going to head to the Siam Centre to do a spot of shopping this afternoon and then go to the cinema tonight.  Apparently you can go VIP and have reclining chairs and table service.  Tomorrow Muse are playing so we are going to try and get tickets today for that which should be good.  Hoping to see some Thai Boxing one night too, and go to the big weekend market on Saturday - so lots to do.

Hope all is well back home.  Saw our first christmas tree yesterday which was a bit strange, made us think of home.

Lots of love

Great to hear from you again. All sounds exciting in Bankok.
Weather cooler here now, but pleasant. Getting near a time when Pete and Ali will be joining you, although you seem to be meeting up with nice people and having lots of fun. Love Mumxxx
Life will never be the same again judging by the blog!!
Glad to see your getting to grips with bartering etc - sounds like my type of business ( ask Mike!!) Newcastle twonked by Liverpool at the weekend and looking like relegation fodder to me. Fans chanting Allardyce for England. Government in meltdown but otherwise all well! Your better off where you are. DadXX
