Yes, we are still in Koh Chang... This place is pretty difficult to get
away from when you know you've got to spend 5 days in and around
Bangkok. I know it's not going to be as bad as we both think, but right
now, thinking about anything other than lying on the beach, or mooching
around one of the many great bars and restaurants here in Koh Chang
seems like more effort than should be required...
...especially now that we are living the high life, at the 'other' end
of the beach, don't you know! We're spending a few days in the resort
at the top end of Lonely Beach. Air con, cable, swimming pool, great
apartment right on our own private beach to watch the sun sets from.
Paradise.
As the days have been getting progressively lazier and lazier, there is
not all that much to report. I've finished my PADI, which means I can
go underwater without drowning now :) So cheap to do it out here and a
great location. It was only marred by a couple of german girls in my
group that seemed to be afraid of the water... I'm sure that was one of
the tick box questions on the form before we started, but hey ho, if I
can get a few more dives in Cambodia and Vietnam, it'll be worth it.
Spent the first morning watching a cheesy video with all the do's and
don'ts of diving, being back at school while you're supposed to be on
holiday is a bit of a weird feeling, but it's also good to know the
basics, to avoid the drowning thing. None of it was really any use for
the final part of the 'exam' though, The Snorkle Test. Which consists
of a mask, snorkle, funnel and a bottle of your favourite tipple, not
to mention as much Sang Som rum as they can find. You sit down in a
chair, put the mask on so that you can't breath out of your nose, and
then chug as much booze as possible through the snorkle until you run
out of breath... The first to go was Jamie, who rather than getting a
good lung full of air before starting, hyperventilated, got pretty much
all the way through, tried to stand, fell in to a plant (now named
Jamie in his honour), and then stumbled on to the floor... As he'd gone
first, I was NOT looking forward to going through the whole 'passing
out into a pot plant' malarky. I eneded up going last, chugged away,
and was told I did pretty well, so that made up for the hideously
queezy
feeling directly after, and the excessive wind, the by-product of
downing a large
bottle of Singha beer and a quarter of a bottle of Sang Som rum in
about 10
seconds.
Two of the other diving group, Jamie and Caroline, turned out to be
friends of the one and only Ali Pally, and even though we'd met as few
times before, it took until that night to figure out that we'd met last
Christmas in London and I'd been reading their blog before we came out,
even looking at the photo's they'd posted... Good job basic observaton
wasn't part of the PADI, or I'd still be sat in the classroom, tip of
my tongue poking out the corner of my mouth, with an intense look of
concentration on my face...
Since then, not much has happened as after the Snorkel Test, a few more
buckets were consumed and that meant another lazy day on Saturday.
Still planing on doing the Elephant trek at some point, but other than
that, it's lazy days all the way :)
Love to all

Birthday treat
Hi Guys - Glad to hear all well. The high life obviously has its attractions so I can see returning to the city ( Bangkok! ) has less appeal. At least you are far away and out of touch with the lunacy of G. Brown and Company who appear to be trying to outdo one another with their ineptness, but you probably won't know about that in your sunny cocoon! Take care travelling, diving and keep slapping on the sunscreen.Dadxx
Hi Mum here, back from Manchester, all well there at the moment. Bill here now, off to see Ian in the play tonight at the Galtres. Let you know the traumas he's been through during rehearsals. Looking forward to seeing David tomorrow. I'm going to a Thanks Giving supper tomorrow night, being cooked by and American with a German wife. start of the Christmas season. Great to here your news, wind and all !!!xx Keep them coming, not the wind!!Bye for now love from us both, plus Bill.
