Koblenz to Cologne 20th June
Today we have sailed from Koblenz to Bonn, and then onto Cologne. Sailed by more history from WW2 - the Bridge of Remagen, Gary very keen for photos here.
Cologne, huge old Cathedral, its' spires were the tallest in Europe until the Eiffel tower was built. It dominates the skyline from the river.
But guess what? Right beside where we were moored was the "Chocolate Museum", would you believe, me a chockaholic and the building within smelling distance. Naturally we went on a tour and bought some goodies. They gave free samples from the factory section, dipping a handful of wafers into a liquid fountain of chocolate, yummo.!
This evening was the Captains' farewell cocktail party and dinner. How sad, this last week seems to have flown by so fast. The crew have been wonderful, they have really added to the trip, with their wonderful friendly smiles, service and just plain nice. Our waiter in the dining room was from Bulgaria, the lovely girl who serviced our room and turned down our bed at night was from Romania. Emil, Mariana, Attila, they will be sorely missed, wish we could hide them in our suitcases and bring them home with us.
Many of the crew were from Eastern Europe countries, the two Captains were Dutch. We had the farewell party 1 night early, as tomorrow we will be in Amsterdam, and lots to see there, so they are giving us plenty of free time.
There was a beautiful sunset to close our last day of cruising the wonderful rivers and canals.
