Bamberg
Finally I might be getting up to date. We don't always have internet access when travelling thought the canal, lost within the locks. The bridges are so low, the top deck is out of bounds, the railings are taken down, the deck chairs folded up, and the Captain's wheelhouse operates on a hydraulic system, and is lowered accordingly. Only his head pops up at times, no wonder he is short and bald!!
This town of Bamberg, has an abundance of historical buildings, luckily not many were destroyed in the War. It was listed as an UNESCO world heritage site in 1983.
The old City Hall was build on a bridge over the Regnitz River, there is another large Cathedral
"El Capitan"
. This was closed to us today, the Archbishop had died recently and his body was lying in state inside. In the cathedral grounds there was a stunning Rose Garden with every colour and type imaginable, Bev C. you would have loved this, just beautiful.
There are 9 breweries in town and 81 more is surrounding areas, producing over 200 different types of beer. And the population is only 70,000, imagine that,
We had 2 hours to wander the old streets, but for the first time the weather let us down and it rained, and is very cool. In fact it has been quite cool as we were climbing, hopefully it will warm again as we go lower towards Amsterdam.
