Tuesday 10th June

Last night's show was very entertaining, 3 excellent Folk violinists, and 4 Hungarian folk dancers.  The men were very "Slap Happy" they were so energetic, performing the dances that require lots of slapping of various parts of their body.  Desley's brother-in-law Rodney became part of the show, very amusing.  Gary was taken up by one of the folk dancers to join in, which he did, dancing around the room in the group, and not an alcoholic drink to release inhibitions was necessary. Then it was time for our first taste of sailing along the river, we sailed away from the lights of Budapest and cruised all night.  We left the French doors to our cabin open and we fell asleep to the sounds of the water and fresh air coming in.

The next morning was relaxing, cruising along the Danube River between Hungary and Slovakia Our Violinist etc
Our Violinist etc
.  We came to our first lock, amazing feat of engineering.  We sat at the bow of the ship to watch our ship cruise into this Lock.

How Man can complete such wondrous works, and yet still have so many homeless, so much poverty, pollution and wars.

Well off my soapbox, we came to this immense hydro electric power plant and lock, there was much skill involved in bringing the ship into the lock, so very close and at times actually touching the wall.  We had to make way for another ship to enter also.  After this the gate was closed and the lock filled quite quickly, and we sailed out the other side into a long man made canal. 17 kilometres long.  The river had been diverted at this part for the ships to sail through.
