As we near our final week, we are trying to make the most out of our time in Italy.  On Tuesday night, we decided to participate in aperitivos, an Italian tradition and a popular trend in Florence.  Six of us girls headed to Oibo restaurant and bar, paid 8 euros for a drink and then were able to choose from an unlimited buffet of pastas, veggies, dips, ceviches and much more.  We sat outside and chatted and watched the crowds in Santa Croce.  A few of our friends walked by so we all decided to head to another bar, the Lions Fountain Pub.  We pretty much felt like we were back in Gainesville because the place was full of Americans and Sweet Caroline was blasting.  The bar had college t-shirts hung up all over the place and there was graffiti all over the walls.  We found a Gator t-shirt and a KD shirt from Penn State.  We ran into a few people studying abroad on a different UF program who just arrived a couple of days ago.  Because we are pretty much locals, we were able to tell them a few of our favorite Florentine spots.
We went to another place and as soon as we got there we ran into...the cast of the Jersey Shore.  Ali and I were standing on the sidewalk and all four of the guys were literally right beside us.  Although we knew we would probably see them eventually, it was still a strange experience.  By the way, they are much shorter in person.  No sightings of the girls yet, but many people on our trip have seen them so it is only a matter of time.
On Wednesday we took a day trip with the group to the towns of Siena and San Gimignano.  First we took a walking tour of Siena, a beautiful town that still maintains many of its medieval traditions.  Sections of the town are divided into wards, and each ward has its own color and mascot.  There are huge rivalries between the wards that are rampant during the town's annual horse race.  We explored for a bit and found a nice trattoria to eat lunch. I got spinach and ricotta ravioli with mushrooms- delicious.  We then found a scenic spot to take pictures before boarding the bus to head to San Gimignano.
We only had a short time in the next town so we decided to get our priorities right and headed straight to the world-famous gelateria, Pluriprimiata, in the center of town.  This shop supposedly won world's best gelato from 2007-2009 so we knew we had to try it.  After waiting in an extremely long line, I chose 4 flavors: nutella (of course), tiramisu, pear and coconut.  All were delicious and refreshing.  It was the perfect treat before heading back to Florence.  Once we arrived, we stopped at our favorite sandwich shop, Salumeria Verde, to get a delicious panini before heading back to our apartment on Via Ghibellina.
