Our guidebook had recommended taking the time to stop and look at the vivid colours of the adjoining glacier lakes on the way up to Mount Cook Village. To be honest, just locating the lakes would have been a small feat due to the very low cloud cover so if anyone out there knows where they are....
When eventually we got to Mount Cook Village (which is pretty small and in the middle of nowhere), the snow decided it was going to land in force - it was a complete white-out with snow a good 3 or 4 feet in places. We're sure Mount Cook was out there somewhere but to be frank, in the two days we were there someone could have stolen it and we wouldn't have been the wiser.
On our second day there, I borrowed a pair of snowshoes and finally got to use my new walking poles
We stayed in a mountain lodge, in sight of the very posh hotel around the corner. As it was super warm Louise decided she was going to hole up there for the two days. That's not completely fair I suppose as she did venture out on the last day to help dig the car out of the snow and try and put the snow chains on!
