Where I stayed
Rustic Lodge

We got an early start today as we were trying to pack all of the activities that we had not gotten to due to the poor weather conditions in the past few days. We managed to get up in time for the breakfast part of "bed and breakfast" for the first time since we got here. Marcello and his brother Juan, along with Marcello's wife, runs the Rustic Lodge and they are all so friendly.

One thing I'm not sure if we mentioned is that everyone here in Costa Rica has been so warm, friendly and well mannered. There doesn't seem to be much crime and the rudest people we've encountered have been tourists. We've only had one person ask us for change, but other then that, we haven't seen any homeless people around the towns. They are also very family oriented people.

With a warm breakfast in our bellies, our next stop....The Original Canopy Tour! Have you ever wondered whether or not you're afraid of heights, but you can't really tell because you've never really been anywhere that high off the ground? As we got strapped in and tightened into our harnesses I had a little anxiety and I kept my fingers crossed and I hoped that I was not about to find out I was afraid of heights.

Our first task was to jump off a ledge strapped into a swing rope like an apeman. I tried not to scream as I sat down into my harness and was let go to swing like a monkey, but I was scared. Ahhhhhhhh......ok so it wasn't that bad. Andy didn't make a peep and if anything he looked quite bored. Most of the girls made some sort of screaming noise. I felt bad for one of the guys in our group who was quite embarssed by the high pitched scream that came out of his throat as he jumped off the ledge.

We hiked a little trail up to our first platform...it looked short and I figured, ok at least if I get scared, I can still get easily get to the ground and turn back. I got hooked on the line and was told to sit back and use my hand as brakes....sounds easy enough except for I've got butter arms and they weren't too good at breaking as I came tearing in. Nor did anyone mention that if you are short, you have to tiptoe or jump to try to get hooked on/off the line. He kept saying "stand higher, higher". Where did he think I was gonna get the extra inch from when I'm already tip-toeing! He finally decided they best way was to grabbed the strap from my crotch and hook me on and off while I was in mid-air. I was about to turn to Andy to tell him how uncomfortable being held up by my crotch was when I looked over and saw all the boys with their harnesses digging into their huevos.

We zipped over several lines before I even had a chance to notice if I was scared or not. I was having so much fun, I didn't even notice how small the trees were from how high up we were.
