Hello All,
We awoke at the farm at 7:00 am to start the day. I went for a quick walk around the grounds in the beautiful South African morning.
Shortly after, we loaded up everyone into two hunting trucks to go out to the field. The hunting trucks we use have the entire box lined with pipes welded into a frame with a padded shooting platform built over the cab and a front seat.
In the field we came across Gemsbok, blesbok and seen the Springbok running we pursued the Springbok and seen two rams fighting. I was lucky enough to be able to shoot first from the truck I was on and had my first African animal of the trip down. A very nice Black Springbok. Within a couple hours all three hunters had taken Black Springbok.
After lunch we returned to the field to help cull some regular Springbok for the Billtong market. Bill tong is the North American equivalent of Jerky.
We each took some regular Springbok in the afternoon.
Our first hunting day in African was a success by all accounts we all had a great time and returned to the farm house for a Braai (BBQ) of Sprigbok livers and kidneys.
After supper we loaded the truck and headed to Altheim which was about two hours away where we checked into a very nice guest house for the night.
