The six hour journey to Nazca turned into 8 hours, so basically spent all day travelling and didnt arrive until dark, in this small town.
Went with a tout to an average place, and booked our Nazca lines tour for the following day.
Wednesday May 4th 2005
Early and rushed start at 7.30 - such urgency in getting us there....only to sit waiting at the airport for over two hours, without explanation, but finally take off, with three other passengers, in the small plane.
We then proceed to see the Nasca lines - these are lines, depicting various shapes, drawn by a pre Inka civilisation, in the desert, on a large scale - the video we watched before the flight told us these were offerings to the gods, linked to hallucengenic drugs taken by the shamen (witch doctors) of the time.
So, in order, we see a whale, and astronaut (?), monkey, dog, condor, spider, humming bird, alcatraz, parrot, tree and hands. Whilst interesting from the air, the plane zipped past them one by one, banking hard at times, leaving my stomach slightly the worse for wear, and due to the speed and height, my photo´s take quite a bit of studying to actually see the lines.
Back on land, my stomach recovers, and we spend the rest of the day in the small town of Nazca - where there is not a lot to see, and catch the night bus to Cusco, in theory a mere 12 hours.
