Tuesday 14th December 2004
Left it too late to catch the early bus to Brisbane, so sat around the pool all morning, occasional swim, read, etc etc. Only downside was my drying swimming trunks and towel decided to stay there, rather than come to Brisbane with me.

Walked a little of Brisbane - its always difficult getting your orientation day 1, and I find walking around lost always helps.

Did my proper exploring of the city today - though its quite warm and the pool at the hostel looks inviting...

Firstly walk down the riverside area - Brisbane is a modern city, with gleaming skyscrapers right next door to old colonial buildings - I guess the first and most prominent colonial building you come across is the Treaury - now used as a casino, which I guess sums Brisbane up!

Riverside area is very nice, lined with restaurants and cafes (gone are the days when I could afford to eat in them.....), and next to the colonial customs house, and then round the Botanical gardens - Brisbanes Hyde Park, which was very nice and relaxing in the afternoon.

The local paper confirmed the following day the peak temperature - a mere 37.6c - though whilst other people were complaining, and I felt a little hot, I think I've got used to heat after 6 months of it.

I crossed the river, to the South Bank - an area of parks, restaurants and fake beaches, and again very nice.

Its now exactly six months since I started travelling - If you've been reading this travelpod, you know my verdict - everybody should do this at least once in their lifetime - there has not been a day where I have regretted it!

Thank you to everybody looking at this site - its been accessed 4465 times in 6 months - thats roughly 25 times a day!

Did the museums thing today - the art museum, the Queensland Museum - all very nice, and some nice pictures that I wouldnt mind having at home (if anyone has a spare few millions...)

Also bought / got repaired some winterish type clothes - I've booked Tasmania for Xmas, and it will be freezing (well, err, around 15-20c anyway!)
