Sunday 12th December 2004 Book bus to Noosa Heads, but instead get lift in two Canadian guys beaten up car from the trip (couldnt really refuse). After moving the 100 or so bottles of beer from the backseat, it was quite an entertainng journey.
Noosa is quite an upmarket town, with nice beach and expensive shops, though I stayed in the cheaper area of town, which was more "real" than the boutique shops of the main front.
Walked the small National Park, where the books says you will see Koala's in the car park (they were hiding from me!), and see nice views over the cliff faces
Monday 13th December 2003 When in Noosa, you do of course go surfing - its renowned for it, and book onto the afternoon two hour course. With my snowboarding skills, this should be easy!
Luckily only two other people in the class, and after drowning myself in sunscreen, begin the lesson - most of it out of the water at first.
The waves looked deceptively weak - out of the water - once you got in, they were surprisingly strong. First part of the lesson is to actually ride the waves without getting up - easy!
Part 2 was the standing up bit - didnt help that I kept going out to deep to get that bigger wave - which then sent me crashing to the bottom even before I tried to stand up. Lesson learned, I went a bit shallower, and after 5-6 attempts, managed a full stand up and surf into the shore - doing turns left and right as I chose - just need another 100 hours practice and I'll be good at this!
