Sunday 28th November 2004 Caught the Greyhound to Mission Beach, and lazily sit around the pool most of the day - clearly I needed a rest, as I havent had much of a break in the last 20 days.
Did venture out for a walk along Mission Beach itself - beautiful tropical beach virtually deserted, and then read all about the different stingers (jellyfish) that can kill me - including the ones that can get through the stinger nets on parts of the beach - the pool seemed so much more inviting!
Monday 29th November 2004 Just another ordinary Monday morning - woke up to bright blue sky, boiling sun, got on a plane, jumped out of it at 14000 ft (when there was nothing wrong with it), swam around in the pool for a couple of hours, walked in the rainforest for a few hours, and then, later, walked along the deserted beach, with a full moon illuminating the water and the beach - very beautiful, and romantic - except of course, I was on my own!
Back to the skydiving - with "Jump The Beach" - Surprisingly, I wasnt nervous, and as we get tightly packed like sardines into the plane, we roar off, with me thankfully tightly strapped to Jack, the tandem skydiver, in whose hands my life is.
Perfect cloudless day, we reach 14000 feet, and the door rolls back, he tells me to edge out - thought I would be chicken at this, but no, I lean out, arms crossed, and then were off! - terrific speed as we plummet towards earth - 120mph for 60 seconds, with tremendous wind pushing against you, then, the parachute is pulled, and it feels like we are floating - we are still dropping 1000 feet a minute.
Jack gives me brief control of the parachute - you pull down hard on one side and you go into a twirl - excellent! Fantastic views over Mission Beach, the sea, the islands, and then land perfectly on the beach - I have to do again!
No photo's, and I wasnt going to pay for a video, but they video'd me anyway, and afterwards, I just had to buy it, even if it is less than flattering...and my language could be better!
