Saturday 9th October 2004
Was well prepared for the ferry back - and was wrapped up warm. Met "Danny Baldhead" at BSB's bus station, who is keen to show me the latest Lonely Planet he is apparently featured in (as well as stamps he has produced with his face on!). Apparently he is a local travel agent, who hangs around the bus station "helping" tourists - nice guy, and I know theres not a lot to do in Brunei, but....

Struggled to find a bar watching the England - Wales match - they love english football, but it needs to be the premier league - they dont really follow internationals unless its the world cup.

Finally find Irish bar, purely aimed at the rich western tourists who stay in the nice hotels opposite, and nearly have a heart attack when my pint of guiness costs me three pounds 50p!

Sunday 10th October 2004
White water rafting down the Padas river today - booked in advance (I err, asked the guesthouse at 12:30 last night). Long taxi drive to Beaufort, then rickety train running alongside the river, which was grade 3/4. Sat on an open carriagless carriage, looking down at the occassional sheer drops to the river, as the train wobbled on the tracks. Jungle was at times a bit depleted - they had a fire a few years ago, but in the main, very nice to sit going through the jungle. Did however sit by a while next to a australian guy who is building an engine that requires no power - free energy - but he cant sell it because the government will stop him...he also doesnt believe in gravity....

Was in a boat with some Chinese - at least I know they werent Japanese, as when they were chanting 1-2 whilst rowing, I suggested we say it in Japanese....the guy had to ask his friend...ooops. Excellent rapids - boat got flipped three times, and went down 11 kilometres - luckily the water was nice and warm.

Bumped into Tall Paul (last seen, jungle) and went to his favourite Indian restaurant. for a very good, and very cheap, meal.
