Apocalypse Now

Monday 8th August 2004 Why oh Why do I not have some Doors albums on my Ipod????? I'm sailing up the Mekong Delta, Apocalypse Now country, its must have music for here - I blame Mr Downing for letting me down.
Sailing the Mekong, on route to Cambodia, bought some amazing coconut toffee, which I'm totally sick off now after having a little too much! Fantastic views, and sail through built up areas, with Vietnamese just getting on with their lives.

Reach Can Tho. apparently Vietnam's fourth biggest city, although I've never heard of it before. Whilst they clearly have seen tourists before, its not so hard sell on you - only the ocaasional person, which is sheer bliss! Then again, there is not a huge amount so see here - a large statue of Ho Chi Minh, where he appears to be wearing a jacket thats far too big for him. Main point of Can Tho for me is transit stop.
Tuesday 9th August 2004 Back on the Mekong - the delta is split into many islands and canals, with vast amounts of water. See large scale floating market (with bigger boats, not like outside Bangkok). Also visit crocodile farm - didnt realise they had crocodiles here - and they dont in the wild - the 20000 here were destined for China at some point.
Lionel Richie has clearly had a big influence here - every single child, whether your on land or on the boat, loves to shout "hello" and wave furiously. I give some of them some of the coconut toffees that I'm now sick off, which works wonders - immediate silence!! - though what their mother says to them about accepting sweets from strange men I dont know.
New variation of the Tuk-Tuk - open air version, where my legs are dangling to the left of the guy riding the motorbike pulling it - they managed to squeeze 11 people on...
