After my night out in Northbridge I woke with a sore head, quite disgrafully, at 9.45am. I just managed to grab some breakfast. Matt from the Hostel checked I had taken everything I wanted before he stashed to cereal, peanut butter (my staple at the moment is two slices with this to accompany my coffee and museli) and of course the Vegemite. I WILL try this before I leave Oz to see if it measures up to Marmite.
After I fashion I saw from my balcony Chun Peng heading out at about 11am (he had told me he was also going to Fremantle today). I was therefore quite surprised to bump into him (with female company) on the platform at Perth station. We caught the train together and he explained they'd been shopping for new mobile phones, hence the delayed departure.
Once in Frematle we went our separate ways and i went in search of lunch. This I found in the High Street, in the shape of a $10.50 bargain special at Bar Orient. I sat on under the colonade (nearly all buildings in town have this) admrning the architecture and watching the world go by. The Prawn and Chicken shewers with rice, cabbage and alioli were sublime. I was being good and drinking Coke with the meal but moved onto a couple of beers when I got chatting to Frank, one of the regulars, and assorted English and Aussie bar staff who were in assorted states of annebriation. This was a good thing on balance as it kept me out of the heat of the day. After the imprompu drink I wanfer round near the Round Tower, the oldest building in 1829 -used as a fort and prison at various times and then get my first dip in the ocean at the quiet end of the town bathing beach - not the bit occupied by McDonalds. The water is sooo warm.
Later I meet up with Matt and 12 or so others from the hostel, who just happen to be in town that afternoon. Matt had kindly invited me when I told him I was going to Freo earlier this morning. We sat outside in the cool breeze at Little Creatures, a microbrewery and restaurant in a hugh wharfside warehouse. Great beer and gret prices too. Anyhow it was fun and we caught the train back to Perth at 12.30. After a Northbridge kebab it was time to crash out. More thumbnails ...
