Namibia is a country of contrasts. From German influenced cities like Windhoek and Swakopmund, to the rock mountain ranges of Branberg and Spitzkoppi. From the plains of Etosha game reserve to the sandy peaks of the Namib Desert. And it was here that we had loads of fun on a sand dune.
Soussuelei label the number one highlight of Namibia and quite rightly so. As we drove through the national park, we admired the variety of sand dunes and desert plant life. But it wasn't until we reached Deadlei, via a jeep, that we really admired the dead of Soussuelei.
Deadlei, a ancient, dead oasis was unusual, but extremely admirable to the photographic eye. Nothing but dead tree trunks and cracked soil, surrounded by red ochre coloured sand dunes. It was stunning. But don't be fooled, it wasn't here that we had loads of fun on a sand dune
As we neared completion of our jeep ride through Soussuelei National Park, we picked out the types of sand dunes such as a crest sand dune. But as the sun was going down, it was time to head to the famous Dune 45, to have loads of fun on a sand dune.
A tough climb up the edge of the dune, included often stopping for breathe, and more than not having to put in enormous effort to pull our feet out of the sand, just to continue to the top, we eventually had it to the peak of Dune 45. And what a way to celebrate, but with a beer. Yes it was hot, but no it was still refreshing, especially when we took in the amazing scenary around us. We had to quench our first before we had loads more fun on the sand dune.
So as we sipped away at our beer, we watched fellow travellers running, rolling and sliding down the massive sand dune. But why put in so much effort to get to the top if you can't enjoy it, so we admired the sun as it went down of the desert horizon.
Just before the sun did set, Shaun decided it was time to have some fun, so he tackled one of the young guys down the side of the dune. Shaun ripped Oli's shirt, but Oli got his own back by tackling and rolling Shaun several times, getting sand where one probably doesn't want to get sand. Oh well, they were having fun and the rest of us spectating were definately having loads on fun on the sand dune.
As the sun did set and the shananigans were over, it was time to make our way down, but the question is, which way should we go down? Roll, run, tumble, walk or slide. As we watched the rest of the group run down in a stampede, Shaun, as should is famous for, got nude. And therefore became the deciding factor in how he would make his way down. In true Shaun style, we ran/tumbled/rolled down Dune 45 nude!!!! When we reached the bottom, we definately could say, we had loads of fun on the sand dune!
