A drive out of the plain, barron town of Uyuni, you will find Bolivia's famous salt plains, 'Uyuni de Salar', where you literally can pass miles and miles of salt. Salt as far as the eye can sea. These plains use to be part of the Pacific Ocean hundreds of thousands of years ago. Due to tectonic plate movement, the Andes were pushed up and as a result, the salt plains were born.
In the middle of the salt plains, you can find some small islands, mainly made up of volcanic rock and coral and of course cacti. Coral sitting at over 3600m above sea level, amazing.
Back to the salt plains. When placed on the salt plains, one finds themselves directed like they were in a hollywood film set. The salt plains are one of the best places to create interesting photos with a touch of surrealism.
So next time you are at the dinner table and someone asks, 'Can you pass the salt please', why not plan a trip to Bolivia.
