Mississippi
Out of Lousisiana we headed north up into Mississippi - home to the Mississippi Delta and a view of the real south.

What we have done and saw:
-Toured the Vicksburg and the National Military Park- one of the most strategically important sites of the Civil war. The Yankees (Union forces) raged a siege of 47 days on the confederate forces holding Vicksburg. It was one of the last confederate locations to surrender - on the 4th of July!!
-Drove several scenic tours in Vicksburg where you see various historical buildings, a mural wall (very different and well done. We later noshed at a local restaurant where Shaun got some soul food - Jambalaya - rice fried up with beans, sausage and several other things Civil War Tunnel

.
-Drove the famous route 61 - the Blues Highway up into the Mississippi Delta. It is famed by the bluesman who lived, worked and played blues in towns along the Mississippi river route. We stay in Clarksdale and head to a blues club co-owned by actor Morgan Freeman called Ground Zero to see some of the locals strumming tunes out for open-mic night.
-Did a Mississippi River boat ride at Tunica on the Tunica Queen. One of the more interesting facts we walk away with is that all the casinos in Tunica have to float on river water to meet gaming regulations (and the government sends inspectors twice a month to take samples and ensure the water they pump in to fill the man-made lakes they float is actually Mississippi River water and not pumped from the ground!!)

Favourite things about Mississippi:
- Checking out some blues!
- Noshing down on some real soul food.
- Floating casino floors and on Mississippi river water - what the?
