Today we are heading north to the Getty Villa and the Getty Center. The drive up was very pretty again along the PCH once we got off the 405. We made it up to Santa Monica and Malibu and the coastline was outstanding. We drove up a long driveway with large stone pavers. It was so beautiful. The road was modeled after a Roman road. The Villa was just spectacular with beautiful gardens, fountains and architecture. The art work was mostly ancient Roman, Etruscan and Greek. Fascinating pieces and a lovely way of being display. We headed through each area and took tons of pictures. The outside area has a beautiful amphitheater. After seeing all the exhibits and sections of the villa we headed back to the car to pick up Michael in West LA.
After picking up our boy we headed over to the Getty Center. It is perched high up on a hill and we had to take a tram from the parking lot to the museum entrance. The views from the top were outstanding. The buildings at the center are really big and from the perimeter there in a panoramic view of LA and the mountains. We toured different sections and would meet up with the kids later. Marty and I went to a special exhibit on the history of the architecture of LA from the 40's thru the 90's. This was really nice seeing the specific California architecture styles and the buildings that have been built during the time period. Great exhibit! We en went on to some European paintings 1700's-early 1900's. They had lots of my favorites: Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Manet, Cezanne and Sargent. I loved the sculptures too and how they were displayed by theme rather than time period. A beautiful museum and all free! We only had to pay for parking and got to pay only for one lot. After meeting up again with the kids we headed back.
We left via Sunset Blvd. and drove through Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Bel Air. Gorgeous homes and beautiful landscapes along this road. Now back to the traffic on the 405 and dinner at the In 'n Out Burger joint. Great fries!
