Yesterday we got a bus to Lananjeras which was about 40 mins away and only cost 3 real which is just over a euro. We decided to hike a trail through the rain forest for an hour to bring us to a place called Sono which is a fisherman's village and which can only be reached by boat or by this trail. The trail started very steeply - I couldn't help thinking what had I gotten myself into
. I was lacking energy due to being sick and my right arm is actually a lot sorer than I first thought after falling off the bike - its really stiff and hard to move but I am a little warrior so I soldiered on! The trail was all along a red mud track which was hard and where there were man made steps made out of the mud. The trail leveled out after a while so I settled into the hike. It was totally deserted apart from one man who passed us out - probably one of the village men. Anyway we were nearing the end of the trek and Ror decided he would jump from one mud step to another - next thing I know he slipped on the mud and took a little tumble - I got an awful fright but looks like I am not the only clumsy one amongst us! It was a silly move actually out of him but sher boys will be boys and IŽm not one to talk to be honest :) Anyway we patched him up - luckily we had wet wipes and plasters with us. We got to the end of the trail and could hear lots of water. I thought it was a waterfall but it was actually the sea - the waves were huge. There was a lovely beach in Sono so we went in search of some food and found 1 place open. There were loads of camp sites there but as I say totally deserted as its winter. It would be pretty cool there in Summer with loads of people camping on the beach. All that was around were the locals who were surfing and fixing their fishing nets. Only had about 30 minutes after that to relax on the beach because we didn't want to trek in the dark. Got back to town and decided to eat cheaply in a self service restaurant where all you can eat buffet cost 4 euro - bargain
So today we are leaving Paraty - we said bye to our friends in the Pousada (both man and dog lol!) and have come down to go on the internet. We were waiting to get on and I hear Irish accents behind me - 3 girls from Dublin and Limerick. Its actually so nice to hear the accent! We are heading to Sao Paulo and turns out they are too on same bus so weŽll have a chat to them soon.
David showed us where to get some lunch before he left so we got Acai in a bowl - it was basically like a berry sorbet with bananas sliced into it with honey and granola - very tasty. Right up my street but I like berry things anyway - Ror wasn't too enamored by it really but its good to try the local dishes I guess!
So two days ago we woke up and I have come down with a head cold so we spent that day on Jabaquara Beach - the day was beautiful, about 22/23 degrees we think so we lazed around reading and listening to music. Headed to the old town for dinner to a really trendy place called Margarida Cafe - there was live music playing again but sher didnŽt the meal cost us 20 euro!! We got a bit of a shock with that as there was a cover charge because of the music but sher what harm! Plenty of time for budgets in a few weeks!
