Where I stayed
We are getting on just fine with our few words of Portuguese - Ola (hello - we all know that), Obrigado (thank you), De Nada (your welcome), Quando? (how much), choa (bye) and a little bit of sign language gets you a long way let me tell you! The people we have met so far are so friendly and helpful - it makes it so much easier when you don't have the language.
I (sharon) woke this morning and I was aching from the cycling - seriously my bum and arms have taken the brunt of this exercise!! We got up to another lovely breakfast (not as nice though this time as there was another couple in the pousada so we didn't get table service this morning!) We lazed around for the morning chatting to David and his wife Jimena - David is originally from Arizona but his wife is Brazilian
We cycled into town for lunch and rushed back to get a bus to Penha. As already explained I am aching today from the cycling and we were nearly back to where we were staying and I started thinking ´Oh my legs are killing me but keep going nearly there`. Next thing I know I was cycling at speed and was veering into the curb but I couldn't stop myself and landed flat on my face! Ror was gone up ahead and he said he heard me let out a weird sound and looked back and in his words I was like a rag doll on the ground! The weird sound was me saying woah woah! He rushed back to me and I was shook to say the least - I didn't cut myself or anything - landed on my right arm so its a bit stiff now but I´m okay!! I was fighting back tears at first but then I got a fit of the giggles and I cant stop laughing now even typing this - I am such a clumsy person at times. Anyhow I dusted myself off and we got the bus to Penha where there is a waterfall and a huge natural stone slide that the locals use but no one was there today as it was pretty overcast. There was a wooden suspension bridge going over the river so we went across that - its about as adventurous as I get at the moment!
Got a mini van back to Paraty and I was trying to close the van door but it didn't close right so I tried it again and was told ´áutomatish´ or words to that effect so I was mortified as it closed automatically - sher you wouldn't even get an automatically closing van door at home so you couldn't blame me! Ror calls it another one of my blonde moments!
