We arrived in Paraty last night and checked into our Pousada which is adorable!  There is a lovely little pool and a relaxation area with books and games etc.  I made friends with Fi Fi the cat who took a shine to me - I was rubbing her but next thing she tries to take a chunk off my finger - thank god I got my rabies jabs which were questionable!  Ror had disappeared to get the camera to take a pic of me and my new friend so I was willing him to come back and rescue me!  I tried to take Fi Fi off me and she went for me again - it was weird though because she was loving the rub and snuggling into me but the bite wasnt malicious but very strange.

Anyway woke early this morning and got up for breakie - we met David the owner of the Pousada who was giving us tips on what to do etc.  We are the only ones staying there which is a bit strange but he said its the low season now and he said its a lot quieter now than it was last year - the dreaded R word Id say is having that effect although they are not in a recession here in Brazil.  The breakfast was huge, lovely scrambled eggs, bread, cheese, yoghurt drink, lime drink, fruit and nice cake so it filled us up lovely!  They had bikes in the Pousada which we could borrow so off we went exploring!

The town is really laid back - loads of people cycling around and on mopeds.  We cycled into the town and went to the old part which was lovely - it was all cobbled streets and lovely restaurants and craft shops.  The shops were quite modern but the setting is old so it was really cute.  We strolled around for a while and decided to visit the little beach in Jabaquera, a nearby town.  It was overcast but really nice.  We were cornered by 2 people selling bracelets etc but they were really nice and Ror made a purchase so hes a true traveller now with his bracelet!  We rushed back into town passing by old horse and traps and one fella on a bike holding onto a running looked so funny.  We got back into town because Ror wanted to try and get the Irish game on the internet.

We went into the old town for dinner - its really strange because the city seems old but them there were loads of modern restaurants and bars and being a Saturday night it was buzzing.  We ate in an Italian restaurant recommended to us by David in our Pousada and it was gorgeous.  There was even live music playing in the garden where we ate - there was a guy playing piano and a woman singing jazzy, swing kind of music.  It cost us 16 euro each for 1 starter, 2 mains and 2 waters - we are living the high backpacker life, its really going to have to come to an end soon or we will be broke!  Treated ourselves to ice cream after and headed back on our bikes to the Pousada where we borrowed the dvd player and watched Bride Wars - I swear I didn't make Ror watch it lol!
