Pattaya was a shit hole. There isn't much to say about it besides the city was infested with dirty old men with 16-year-old Thai girlfriends. The city is the closest beach to Bangkok and is only 2 1/2 hours away. About 15 of us came over the weekend and besides the pollution and prostitutes we all has a good time. This was our first time traveling outside of Bangkok so getting on a bus was a confusing experience. We took the sky train across town to the bus terminal when two second from being in sight of the station we were quickly asked where we are going and herded on to a bus. We had no idea what was going on but we went with it because the bus said "Pattaya" in big letters on the side. Once we got there we got a ride from a pick up truck taxi that took us to the underbelly of Pattaya. During the Vietnam War Pattaya was the main port for us soldiers on shore leave in Thailand. Naturally certain industries developed in the community and they are still there today. Former American soldiers, who never went home after the war, own many of the restaurants and bars in the city. We actually saw a vet wearing an old military jacket. Most people that come to Pattaya come for the sex industry and literally we were the only people there for the beaches, which were disgusting. The water here was so polluted that when I finally built up enough courage to go in my gag reflex went off and I started dry heaving. We spent two nights here and we all had a great time going out at night and having a few drinks
