In Damarascotta Maine, apparently this pumpkin festival started off as a couple rednecks carving out their huge pumpkins and paddling them across the bay in a race. Over time this became a pumpkin regatta and evolved into a multi day pumpkin festival with contests and festivities. The hugest pumpkin we saw was 1332 lbs and I could probably fit inside it.
Many people and their pets dressed up as pumpkin. We saw a small child in the parade pulling Ina wagon the first pumpkin he ever grew which weighed 32 lbs. Very large pumpkins lined the streets and were decorated by the shops that they were infront of.
