The trip got off to quite the exciting start on my flight from Detroit to LA. We had dropped Lauren and Candice off to the airport and I said to them to make sure to meet me in Melbourne with some good stories. As I was waiting to leave Detroit, some trailer park white boy walked through the airport yelling "What the Fu** are you looking at." I thought my trip was ending there. He didn't look promising. But continued to walk and keep yelling. No one did anything about it, probably because it was Detroit.
Little did I know that I would experience a domestic fight on an airplane on my trip to LA
The flight to Sydney, it turns out, was 15 hours. I found this out after the flight. I slept for 13 of them, missed 2 of the 3 meals and felt quite refreshed once landings. I made it to Melbourne to meet up with Candice & Lauren but when I got off the plane, they weren't there waiting for me. I really wasn't worried -although they did get in about an hour and a half before me. Turns out they were in a different terminal, contemplating on getting me paged.
As we didn't know where we'd be staying, we went to the board of different places to stay, where we met David. This guy was classic. He was a 74 year old ex-olympic gold medalist turned cab driver in Melbourne. He gave us a "good deal" and was going to take us to St.Kilda (on the other side of Melbourne, near the beach)
We ended up in St.Kilda at a hostel near the beach. It is gorgeous here. Candice and I went for a run on the beach this morning before we went on an adventure to Phillip Island. We all went to a little zoo thing where we got to see wallabee's, koala's, emu's, & feed KANGAROOS!!! We even saw a joey pop his head out of a pouch. We then headed onto the island and went to this picture perfect area on the ocean where the tour bus stopped. It was rainy out with no one else around but a lonely red car where a couple were taking a little afternoon delight. The tour bus had to move as we weren't on an X-rated tour! We then sat outside in the rain to watch a penguin parade. The cutest thing -these little guys come up everyday at 6pm to go up the beach, then up the hill and sleep at night.
We are heading back into Melbourne tomorrow to see the downtown. On Thursday, we'll hit up the Great Ocean Road and maybe Friday we'll catch a football game (that has a 120,000 seat stadium). So far, this place is amazing.Stay tuned. I'll try and update you on what's going on here. Internet isn't as easy to get as back home -you pretty much pay for it everywhere so who knows when I'll be updating :)
