Hey guys,
Well, I have just celebrated my first Queens Day in Holland and it was fantastic.
Amidst the distress of being rejected by the Immigration Department on my residency application and deciding to contest it, I have discovered that Queens Day is an even bigger celebration here in Holland than New Years.
It all began on Wednesday night with Petra and I along with Petra's friend Annette and her boyfriend Arne going into the city and partying until 4am.
With D.J's on every corner, beer flowing freely and a population seemingly devoid of violence (very strange), everybody had an absolute ball!
The next day, we awoke to headaches and distressing news that an attempt had been made on the royal family's life by way of a car driving through a barricade and attempting to hit a bus carrying the royal family on Queens Day.
All flags were flown at half mast for the rest of the day and celebrations ended at 6pm as opposed to the usual 10pm.
This was the first time in recent history that anything like this had happened and it brought the reality of world terrorism home to Holland...Big Time!!!

We partied hard anyway and we, once again, enjoyed d.j's pumping tunes out of house parties in every street along with the town square rockin out in true Queens Day fashion with local and international d.j's and bands.
We ended the day at a rooftop party, looking down on "The Grote Markt" (town square) and watching the crowd disperse at 6pm.
There were times today that I felt like we were all cattle being herded around the city, when for 10mins at a time the crowd would barely move at all and still, everyone smiled, everyone greeted one another with a friendly demeanor.
A pat on the shoulder, a handshake or a smile.
Not one single fight broke out!
