Maine was amazing even if it was our third time there. We stayed at the cutest B&B with this wonderful lady named Roberta who managed to break her wrist the 2nd day we were there. She was so nice though and such a good sport about it. Plus, her place was amazing-- 5 rooms maybe and beach access just down a path in her backyard. Our first night there, I walked out to the water under the moon and just sat there watching the stars and the water and ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. It was SO nice.
Thursday was technically a day off but to justify our driving out to Bar Harbor to do Acadia National Park, we squeezed in a stop at College of the Atlantic to make it seem worth the gas. COA is this TEENY little school with one major and just a few hundred students, including Sara, this girl we met at the sidewalk sale in Bath way back in August! It is always nice to see some familiar faces, again coincidentally, along the way =). Everyone at the school was uberly crunchy and their dining hall was so vegan friendly, it made me consider wanting to go back to school (haha yeah right). Anyhoo, we tabled for the lunch hour and then bounced off to Acadia for a scenic drive and a run-up-the-hill-before-it-gets-dark kinda hike. Maine is absolutely GORGEOUS. The mountains, the hills, the coast, MAN, no wonder Laura spent all her summers there back during high school. Acadia was beautiful and the town of Bar Harbor certainly has its charm. I super splurged and ate a $30 meal at Eden Restaurant, an all vegan, all organic, all locally owned and farmed produce buyer complete with olive butter and matza, bbq seitan, wasabi potatoes, and greens, and of course, almond chocolate mousse. Mmmmmmmmmm. I was gonna super uber splurg and get the vegan bloody mary but Rebecca promised blueberry beer at the bar that I was meeting her and her friend at after dinner so I held off on the alchy. Of course, the bar had completely run out of blueberry beer so alas, I left Maine without trying their local brew =P.
On Friday we rolled out of Bar Harbor to Colby College where Rebecca's cousin goes to school and where we thus had an "in" to table on campus. We snuck out after a short shift to go swimming at the school's private lake (yes, private lake, you read it right) where all the students hung out and where I met this really fun girl from Menlo Park. Yey Cali girls =). The lake was beautiful of course and I couldn't imagine being able to go there whenever I wanted before, after, or between class!
We met up with Debi, our Maine organizer, after Colby for an event she had scheduled at U of M, Farmington. Not such a great turnout since it was Friday afternoon but 3 girls said they would be on the bus for the rally!
