On Wednesday we drove from Austin to New Orleans in great time.  That night we went to see Ryan Monbleau and Martin Sexton at the House of Blues.  After that we walked around Bourbon Street, which was crazy to say the least.
The next day we took a tour of the Stern Mansion, which was pretty cool.  Their garden was beautiful.  Next we walked around the French Quarter, and down to the French Market.  We then met up with Jen's friend Zach, who lives in the Garden district.  He took us on a "locals tour" of New Orleans, which was great.  First we went to a great restaurant.  Jen had Cochon Cake, which was basically super tender, falling-off-the-bone pig.  Shane had rabbit liver and catfish, and Zach had baby goat.  After that, we went for desert, and we got there just in time, because after walking straight up to the counter and ordering our food, the line seemed to instantaneously form all the way out the door.  Rightfully so too, because the chocolate there was soooo rich and tasty.  After that we went to a few bars and walked around a bunch.
The next day was the big day!  Jazzfest that is.  We took a street car over to the park where Jazzfest is.  It was amazingly large and full of spirit.  There were lots of great brass bands, and marching and partying.  We ate crawfish and alligator and enjoyed many great artists such as Hiromi, Stanley Clarke, Nicholas Payton, Susan Tedeschi, and more.  Aretha Franklin was supposed to perform, which was one of the main reasons we chose to go that day, but she decided to be a diva and refused to perform due to the humidity.  The festival managed to find a great replacement in Earth Wind & Fire, and they were sweeeeet.
