After a near 3 year break, I'm back in Phuket.  In two days, I've received my fair share of sun burn (I over did it yesterday with 4 hours at my resort's pool... tried to cover up but didn't work somehow), sex propositions including at today's breakfast from one of the waitresses, lots of 'you want massage, suit, taxi etc.', lots of drinking at a couple of my favourite bars and lots of sweating... it's very humid here but it adds to the feel.

I'm staying at a beautiful 5 star resort, the Millenium Resort at Phuket's new Jungcylon Shopping complex... basically a playground full of 4 stories of extensive shopping malls.  Everything you could ever dream of.

My bloody belt broke on the first night (thanks Politix... your clothing is starting to lose its appeal to me)... didn't have to look far for a replacement.  You can find whatever your heart desires here.  Phuket is interesting in that it caters for the family, single, couple, straight, gay, black, white, fat, skinny, young adult, elderly adult... everyone!  This is what I love about it.  I have seen heaps of single men with their Thai girls (or boys).  I have heard that the Thais view sex very differently to us... it is basically a business transaction for them.  Even though they have family at home, the sex workers are very interested in giving you anything you want.  The standard price is about B1000 (about $AUD50).  Some of the locals I've met indicated that you can pay more or less than this depending on your level of satisfaction.  If you don't mind the noise, sleezy men, sex in your face, cheap drinks and lots of sun, you'll enjoy Phuket.  If not, stay to the cultural areas of Thailand including Chiang Mai or the exclusive beaches away from Patong.

I'm paying $264 a night for the Milennium - it has all the trimmings of a 5 star hotel (price inflated due to this being peak season and New Year's).  The pool, bar, service, breakfast, room etc. are all superb.  I'll stay here for the first 5 nights before transferring to the Royal Paradise Hotel for a $100 cheaper per night.  I decided to stay at this first hotel to see the new year arrive in style and say goodbye to what has been a shocker of a year.  I'm planning to have a full body treatment (massage, foot treatment etc.) and may head out to Maya Beach.  I am so relaxed I can't be bothered doing anything except drinking, sleeping, sunbathing and shopping.

But I did see a movie today... Australia.  My god, what a teary exercise.  This movie is truly exquisite and rates up there as one of my favourite 5 of all times... Nicole, Hugh and Brandon (the little boy) were simply awesome.  Loved it.  Makes me proud to be Aussie seeing quality like this.

Not sure what I'm doing for NYE yet.  The resort and shopping centre is putting on a show.  I'm somewhat bewildered as to what to expect because I simply don't know what's happening.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Good luck on your trip to Bali Scott... sure you'll love it.  Very similar to Phuket in lots of respects.
