Where I stayed
Flying Business Class was a real treat... clearly my best flight ever. The 5 hours seemed like 15 minutes, it went so quick. As you would expect, everything was superb. At one stage, I had a bailey's on ice, my champas, a coffee and a port all on my tray. The food was outstanding - separate entrees (king prawn and salads), main (chicken, potato) and dessert (assortment of cheeses) - I was so full, I couldn't finish this particular meal. Once that had finished, we had chocolates.
I had a real bonus in that the people in the business class section were very friendly - a real party atmosphere. I sat next to Wayne... 32 year old electrical engineer from Perth on his honeymoon. The bride sat in economy class - some credit issue with Qantas. But they would be together for the Singapore to London flight in business. Friendly guy, we spent most of the flight talking about all kinds of stuff including his trip to the Swiss Alps to ski for a few weeks. I also watched part of Mama Mia, listened to an assortment of chill out music, and enjoyed checking out the full reclining bed seat. Definitely a great way to travel.
If you can find an opportunity to fly international business with Qantas - do it! You won't be disappointed.
After scrambling myself through the airport and Singapore, I found my hotel - Furama on the Riverfront. A very clinical hotel, and clearly overpriced for what you get. The bed was awful - hard as a rock and the mini bar exhorbitantly priced ($5.50 for a small bottle of water). Good location though - near China town.
I went out to Chinatown, and went to a few bars. The Singaporeans are very friendly and easy going. No problems in meeting people - but I had to start drinking coke/lemonaide because I was totally plastered by the end of what was a tiring but enjoyable day.
Off the Phuket for a week. And off to get my cheap air asia flight.
