I reckon I'm a traveller for life. With a year behind me, I'm desperate to hit the road again and can't wait to get back to South East Asia. The plan hasn't changed since I last wrote... 1 night in Singapore, a week in Phuket for New Year's, a week in Bangkok, ten days in Cambodia, 5 nights in Kuala Lumpur and then a night in Singapore. Air Asia have given me real bargains - it's interesting to note that the flight from Singapore to Phuket has increased by $200 since I booked it back in April/May for under $100.
I've booked most of my accommodation and will be living it up in 5 star luxury in both Phuket and Bangkok compared to 2006 when I was on a rock bottom budget of $60 per day. I'm staying at the Millenium Resort in Phuket and the Swiss Lodge in Bangkok. But I've decided to do it on the cheap in Cambodia, staying at a few 2 star guesthouses. Maybe Hotel Capitol in KL.
This trip is vastly different from my first one in 2006... given that I stayed at $10 a night hotels/hostels back then, I want to see what it's like to live it up in 5 star hotels so I can compare and contrast. People say that you don't get to experience the culture if you stay 5* but I don't care about that given I've been there... I'm desperate to live it up, relax and party with the locals.
I leave in 4 days... will be staying at the Furama on Riverfront Hotel in Singapore's Chinatown area.
It seems as though my 17 year old brother Scott is also getting the travel bug... he is off to Bali for his first International Trip. I'm sure it won't be his last.
I'm starting to think of my next end of year holiday - I'm thinking Perth-Melbourne (for Xmas)-Hong Kong-Bangkok (for New Year's)-Chiang Mai-Luang Prabang-Vientiane-Kuala Lumpur-Perth. But I'll wait until this one's over. Air Asia and frequent flyer points makes getting around cheap as (it's 30000 points to fly Melbourne to Hong Kong... 60000 if business class). Either this or Central/South America... or east coast of Australia. The options are endless!
Write later. Merry Christmas to all my readers and happy travels.
